The 19th Madras Management Association (MMA) – Amalgamations Business Leadership Award was conferred on Azim Premji, Chairman, Wipro Limited, in recognition of his ability to build a business with impeccable integrity and uncompromising ethics. Premji has been successful in transforming Wipro into a global IT powerhouse, putting India on the world map as a software nation.
The selection committee for the award was headed by Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons Limited. Additionally, it also included Arundhati Bhattacharya, Former Chairman, State Bank of India, M. M. Murugappan, Executive Chairman, Murugappa Group, R. Seshasayee, Vice Chairman, Hinduja Group and Sunil Kant Munjal, Chairman, The Hero Enterprise. After his acceptance speech, Premji delivered the Anantharamakrishnan Memorial Lecture in which he spoke of ‘Leading a young and digital India.’
The Madras Management Association – Amalgamations Business Leadership Award was first instituted in 1969 to commemorate the memory of an illustrious leader and a great visionary, S. Anantharamakrishnan, the founder of the Amalgamations Group. The very first recipient of the award was J R D Tata, way back in 1969. The 18th recipient of the Award was Ratan Tata in 2014.
