CONSUMER SMALL APPLIANCES MARKET WILL GROW AT 12%

The emergence of e-commerce industry and investments in diverse pockets have boosted the Indian consumer appliances industry, enhancing its revenue and reach. Cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency and technological advancement have enabled consumers to choose their products wisely, pa-ving the way for the branded brown goods market. The gloomy economic conditions may have slowed down the growth but this sector has maintained positive growth.The growing demand for kitchen appliances and continuous product advancements are likely to keep the industry going at a brisk pace.
Sachin Goel, CEO, HomePunch.com, an online platform that sells home kitchen appliance, told BE, “The home and kitchen appliance industry is estimated to be `15,000 crore and is poised to grow at 10% rate and will reach ` 30,000 crore by 2025.” After talking to a number of home-makers on their preferred kitchen appliances, BE found out that grillers, ovens, barbecues, heaters, fryers, cookers, electric kettles, sandwich makers, toasters, hand blenders, juicers, induction cook tops, and mixer grinders are among the most used.
Aniruddh De and Anuja De, a working couple, told BE, “Increase in surplus money and growing family earnings is expected to drive the demand for home appliances. The small appliances have made our lives much easier. Appliances like the roti makers, sandwich makers, hand blenders, toasters and induction cook tops have made cooking easy.” Smita Shaw, a home-maker, said, “I am glad that the kitchen industry is coming up with new innovations. Being a home-maker and a mother of two children, I know how tedious kitchen jobs are. The new appliances help to save my time.”Many players in the market have established a strong hold on the industry with their revenues growing substantially. Namit Bajoria, Director, Kutchina, told BE, “The current market size of small appliance in India is ` 10,000 crore of which the premium to mid segment range is around ` 3500 crore. The consumer small appliance market is believed to be growing at 12% per annum.”

The online share is expected to double in the coming years. Thus, Goel informed BE, “Homepunch aspires to
become the most preferred online destination for anything and everything in home and kitchen appliances segment.” He added that his company aims to be the single largest platform where every brand/retailer related to home and kitchen appliance services and products will be featured.
