Sikkim’s diversified festivals have added a different angle to the state’s tourism sector. A state of diverse communities and different cultures, Sikkim hosts a number of exquisite festivals that exhibits its various cultures. A tourist can get a real taste of the various cultures of Sikkim by visiting these festivals. Every festival comes with its unique flavour. BE has compiled a list of the festivals that are celebrated widely in Sikkim.

Fairs and festivals of Sikkim             

Maghe Sankranti Mela at Jorethang, South Sikkim : This is celebrated on the first day of the month of Magh corresponding to Gregorian calendar on January 13-15.

Guthor Chaam at Rumtek Monastery : This is celebrated two days prior to the Tibetan New Year (LOSAR) corresponding to the months of February /March.

Bumchu at Tashiding : This is celebrated on the 14th and 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar corresponding to the month of February /March.

Flower Festival at Gangtok : This is a great festival to attend for orchid lovers and is hyped between the month of March and May and also from October to November.

Saga Dawa :  This is held in June.

Pang Lhabsol : This is held in September. Celebrations are held at Gangtok , Rabong and Lachung.

Durga Puja /Dasain : This is held in October.

Tyohar (Diwali) : This is held in October/November.

Guthor Chaam at Enchey Monastery : This is held on the 28th and 29th day of the eleventh month of the lunar calendar corresponding to the months of December/January.

Kagyed Dance : This is held on December 23 at Old Rumtek Monastery, Lingdum Monastery, and Phodong Monastery.

Loosong : This is held between the1st and the 7th days of the eleventh month of the lunar calendar corresponding to the month of December/ January.
