GNIT organised Smart India Hackathon 2019 Software Edition Grand Finale

Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, a flagship college of the JIS Group, was selected for the third time to be the nodal centre to organise the third edition of the Smart India Hackathon 2019 Software Edition Grand Finale on March 2 and 3, 2019. This event was initiated by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development in collaboration with i4c, MyGod, Persistent Systems, MIC, DEVENT, Deloitte, Cisco, KPIT and Suma Soft along with several other union ministries. The inauguration of the grand finale took place at the GNIT campus in Kolkata on March 2.

Students of the Guru Nanak Institute of Technology won the Smart India Hackathon 2019’s winning trophy. They persevered for around 36 hours during the grand finale to come up with digital solutions to the problem statements. On the first day, students had their first round of training session and the first round of evaluation.

The chief guests for the event included Professor (Dr.) Saikat Mishra, VC, MAKAUT. Dr. Anand Deshpande, Chairman and MD, Persistent System and also Co-Chair of organising committee Smart India Hackathon, Professor Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE, and Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister, Human Resource Development Department and many of them addressed the gathering through video conferences. Gupta, Director, National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR) Kolkata was present on the final day of the event at GNIT. Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group, stated that such exposures foster a spirit of excellence, competition and confidence among the students.

Professor (Dr.) Santanu Kumar Sen, Nodal Principal, GNIT, Smart India Hackathon 2019 informed the media, “Smart India Hackathon 2019 is a digital product development competition involving all technological institutes in India and approximately reaches 2,000000 students. This competition is a great exercise that challenges students to think out of the box and innovate on smart application development that will help to address major real time problems in our country.”

Bidyut Majumdar, GM, JIS Group, informed, “We are delighted that we have been chosen not only for the third time to be a nodal centre, but also to be the only institute in West Bengal to have the honour of organising Smart India Hackathon 2019 along with IIT, KGP.”
