Recently, Lions Clubs International, one of the world’s largest NGOs, celebrated 100 years of service to  the community, and installed a district cabinet in Kolkata. Dr. H. P Kanoria graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the programme.

Dr. H.P. Kanoria said, “I have served the community for the past 60 years. All the Lion’s Club members are continuing to serve mankind for the past 100 years. We all are lions and lionesses. Swami Vivekananda had righty said, ‘Arise, awake, and fear not’, serve without fear or favour. So if we think ourselves to be lions and lioness, we can achieve whatever we want. Mankind and God are linked to each other. We are the disciples of all Gods and Goddesses. God has given us everything. Swami Vivekananda had gone to Thakur Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa at Dakshineswar and asked for a deep Samadhi, (meditation ─ Nivrutti Samadhi). He was then asked to serve humanity while fixing mind on God. Service to Humanity is worship to God. We should all inculcate ideologies of Lord Shiva
and help the poor. Everyone has the potential in themselves. If they use it in the right direction, they can make a difference to the whole world. So come, let us all pledge together to build a new India. Jai Hind!”

Ashok Surana, District Governor, Lion’s Club, said, “We will focus on diabetes, respiratory disease, cancer, environment, hunger relief, andother concerns. The Lion’s Club is present in all 210 countries and we believe in serving the nation. We have to forget what people think about us and keep aside the fears and stipulations of society. We serve for need.”

Lions International has earmarked activities for Centennial Service Challenge like engaging their youth, protecting the environment, sharing their vision on community service and relieving the hunger. Dr. H. P. Kanoria also felicitated some of the Lions who have made some special contribution towards service to society.
