Curtain goes up on the Tata Steel Chess India - Rapid & Blitz 2019 edition

TATA STEEL CHESS INDIA, RAPID & BLITZ 2019 puts India firmly on the world chess map and has become part of the Grand Chess Tour. The tournament brings eight of the world’s top fifteen Grandmasters and the top three Indian players to Kolkata. Speaking on the occasion, Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, said, “It is indeed a matter of great pride for all of us that this tournament will be the first-ever GCT event to be held in Asia.” “Rapid & Blitz is very promising and brings a refreshing change for the game of chess with many untapped possibilities and we now aim to achieve new landmarks in this game”, added Bharat Singh Chauhan, Secretary, AICF.

UCO Bank registered an increase in the operating profit

Operating profit of UCO bank for the quarter ended in September, 2019 has increased to `1207.4 crore from `506.10 crore in the quarter ended in September, 2018, registering a growth of 138.50%. The net income interest of the bank registered a growth of 31.27%, increasing from `964.58 crore for the quarter ended in 30.09.2018 to `1266.20 crore for the quarter 30.09.2019.  As of 30th September, 2019, CASA, the cheapest source of bank’s financial fund, increased to 40.55% to 36.96% (September, 2018). Provision Coverage Ratio of the Bank has increased to 81.19% as on 30.09.2019 from 67.61% as on 30.09.2018 and from 77.12% as on 30.06.2019. The bank has reduced its RWA to `100699 crore as on 30.09.2019 from `101830 crore as on 30.09.2018. AK Goel, MD, UCO Bank expects the bank will come out of PCA within one or two quarters. When at least some of the NCLT cases will be resolved, the bank will enter into the profit making zone. 

United Bank of India continues its revival

The bank registered a net profit of `123.88 crore for Q2 ended September, 2019. The net interest income for quarter ended in September increased to `772.78 crore against `442.60 crore in the same quarter last fiscal. CASA deposits at `68387 crore further improved to 50.92% of total deposits with a growth of 169 bps Y-o-Y. The bank has been earning operating profit even in bad times. For this quarter also, the situation continued and bank earned operating profit of `598.57 crore for the quarter ended in September, 2019 as against an operating profit of `206.37 crore in September, 2018 quarter.

The session witnessed presence of all consultants from Department of Neurosciences, R N Tagore Hospital. Dr. Kaushik Sundar, Stroke and Interventional Neurologist, of the hospital said, “Due to the changing lifestyles, now stroke is not related to older people; the young adults are also affected. Awareness is the key to prevention”. Dr. Nitin Manjunath, Facility Director, of the hospital said, “We are happy to announce R N Tagore as a ‘Stroke Ready Centre’ where we will cater to all kinds of stroke prevention facilities.”

‘Breast Cancer Awareness Walk’ by Ruby General Hospital

Ruby Cancer Centre, a unit of Ruby General Hospital, in association with Bengal Oncology Foundation and Ruby Cancer Care & Research Foundation, had organised an awareness rally from Ruby General Hospital to generate breast cancer awareness. More than 50 cancer survivors and their families had participated in the walk along with eminent oncologists like Dr. Gautam Mukhopadhyay, Dr. Somnath Sorcer, Dr. Amitabh Ray, Dr. Sanjoy Roy, Dr. Dipanjan Majumdar, Dr. Soumya Mukherjee and Dr. Abhishek Guhathakurta. Many well-known personalities like Prosenjit Chatterjee, Tanusree Chakraborty, Chaiti Ghosal, Monomay Bhattacharya, Phalguni Chatterjee, Bikram Chatterjee and many others had also joined.
