WEBFUNA demands action of the UN against terrorism
15:52 pm

The West Bengal Federation of United Nations Association (WEBFUNA) organised a candlelight vigil march to the UNICEF office, Kolkata on February 19, 2019. The procession started from WEBFUNA’s Kolkata office in Shakespeare Sarani. Their representatives submitted a memorandum addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations Organisation (UNO) that urged the UN to call a Security Council meeting to take action against perpetrators of terrorist strikes and to declare Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed chief, MaulanaMasoodAzhar as a global terrorist.

It is important that the UN should immediately take steps to define terrorism. This lack of definition is the major cause for our inability to control terrorism. Secondly, the UN should take steps because the chief of Jaish-e-Mohammed is based in Pakistan and the organisation has already owned the responsibility of the Pulwama attack. He should be declared as a global terrorist. The UN Secretary-General should call an immediate meeting of the Security Council, consult the five permanent members, take them into confidence, use his office and influence to stop terrorism which has become a major menace for many countries. This is a case of collective decisions. We also know that because of the China’s stand, Maulana Masood has not been arrested and no action has been taken against him. Only the UN can overcome such issues.

United Nations Security Council on February 21, 2019, in its press statement on the suicide bombing in Jammu & Kashmir, condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly suicide bombing in Jammu and Kashmir.
