Bharat Chamber of Commerce (BCC) recently organised the ‘Rural Connect 2018’ in Kolkata to deal with the challenges that farmers face while transforming them-selves from agri-producers to agri-entrepreneurs.

Numerous speakers addressed several agrarian issues. The rising cost of agro produce, its marketing, and exports were widely discussed. At the same time, the thrust was

given to creating a congenial atmosphere for rural entrepreneurship Hemant Kanoria, CMD, SREI Infra-structure stressed on the need and scope of entrepreneur- ship in rural areas. He mentioned that urban entrepreneur-ship is going to be saturated. Therefore it is imperative to create a situation where rural entrepreneurship develops. This requires cooperation from the government, FPOs, NGOs and private players. There was a huge gathering of students at the programme. Kanoria advised students to create jobs and not seek them and encouraged them to become entrepreneurs. He stated that there were 75000 service sectors working in the villages of eastern and north eastern India.

Dr. Sanjeev Chopra, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Industry, Commerce & Enterprise, Government of West Bengal, in his address emphasised on the important role of NABARD in respect to the rural and farming economy.
