Durga Puja is a time of festivities and feasting. People look forward to try out new dishes and festival-specific menus at hotels and restaurants. Some Kolkata-based hotels and restaurants and their Durga Puja specials for this year are listed here.

JW Marriott Kolkata is all set to host gourmet expertslooking for great meals during the festival. The Mahabhoj will be displayed at the Grand Ballroom all through Saptami, Asthami and Nabami. Keeping the spirit of Puja in mind, delicacies such as ‘Gondhoraj Fish Tikka’, ‘Echorer Dalna’, ‘Aam Kasundi Paneer’, ‘Posto Murgi’, ‘Mutton Roganjosh’, ‘Pulao’, ‘Dhokar Dalna’ are being prepared.

Prakash Chettiyar, Executive Chef, JW Marriott, told BE, “The culinary scene in Kolkata during Durga Puja is very vibrant. One cannot stop trying out the various cuisines the city has to offer. Pandal hopping is not the only thing to do during Durga Puja. Trying out traditional Bengali delicacies is also an important part of this festival. Traditional Bengali dishes bring nostalgia and a gastronomical experience to the palate.’’

The dining area of the hotel will be decked up keeping in mind the essence of the festival. The hotel has planned an elaborate buffet with festive delights including a wide selection of Indian, Continental and Asian favourites.

Barbeque Nation, over the years, has introduced its very own signature style to welcome Durga Puja. The restaurant chain introduced ‘The Shubho Sarodiya’ food festival at its outlets in Kolkata, Durgapur, Siliguri and Guwahati.

Suman Mukherji, Regional Manager, Central, Barbeque Nation Hospitality, told BE, “The Shubho Sarodiya food festival is not only about relishing the lip-smacking traditional deli-cacies but also reliving the good old memories of Durga Puja with your friends and relatives. This festive season, starting from October 2 to October 10, food enthusiasts can indulge in the limited edition menu/buffet which includes Sorshe Bhapa Ilish, Golda Malai Curry, Kosha Mangsho, Mutton Biryani, Sukto, Jhinge Posto, Begun Basanta, Rasogolla, Misti Doi and Chennar Payes.”

The Westin, Kolkata is all set to showcase a grand buffet during this Durga Puja. The festival planners of the hotel have ensured to showcase the rich cuisine culture of the community with top notch celebrations in place starting from Panchami to Dashami.

Vicky Kumar, Chef de Cuisine, The Westin, Kolkata told BE, “Food is an integral part of this celebration and you will always find individuals feasting around at restaurants or at a local street vendors. We at The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat have come up with some delectable traditional and non-traditional offerings to appease your taste-buds.” The festive special menu not only includes authentic Bengali dishes but also Bengal’s favourites such as Tangra Chinese, Momo and Thukpa.  Seasonal Tastes, the restaurant at the hotel, is also ready to lay out appealing Bengali desserts like Patishapta, Torched Rasogulla and Makha Sandesh to end the meal on a sweet note.

Several other properties like The Fatty Bao, Monkey Bar and Yauatcha have planned to feature traditional Kolkata treats with the quintessential festival twist. Stakes are riding high for these restaurants to provide a wholesome experience during this Puja.
