VDMA delegation from Germany on mine safety and efficiency

Coal continues to be the most important element for about four decades to be India’s growing energy needs. The government has put coal production in the country on a fast track and has set a target of 1.5 BT of domestic coal production by FY20. Germany is known globally for its engineering technology and is a very strong partner to India in the mining machinery sector. The German delegation met a few representatives of West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL) for supplying technology. This delegation presented the mining industry in West Bengal, about latest technologies in safety and efficiency in mining. Rajesh Nath, MD, VDMA India Services told BE that in India open cast mining has been a growing economic and political problem. So India has to go for underground mining which will be helped by German technology.

Dr. Anindya Ghose addresses on Mobile Economy

To address the increasing change in ways of doing digital marketing and touch on the subject of Mobile economy, the Bengal Chamber organised an interactive session at IIHM Global Campus, Sector V, Salt lake with Dr. AnindyaGhose, Heinz Riehl Chair Professor of Business, Professor of Technology, Operations and Statistics, NYU Stern School, Professor of Marketing and Director, NYU Stern Masters in Business Analytics. According to Dr AnindyaGhose, with regards to mobile economy, the two way exchange stands to benefit both - consumers and businesses. He stated that Artificial intelligence is a modelling technology that brings in large amount of efficiencies due to automation. However, this also runs the risk of more income inequality unless dramatic steps are taken. Debashis Sen, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal present at the program, stated that prices of mobile data is lowest in India and personal viewing screens are penetrating into the villages and therefore there is an economic opportunity for people in the department of IT.

D.Patra, Vice-Chancellor, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) and Rajesh Kumar Sinha, IAS, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Marketing & Agriculture, Govt. of West Bengal, were present among others.
