Peace in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 has yielded a positive change and the tourism sector is flourishing. Kashmir, globally renowned for its natural beauty, is experiencing a renewed inflow of tourists and its administration has stated that more than one lakh tourists have visited the valley in the month of February. The tourism department is expecting record business this year.

The government has also recently opened Asia’s largest tulip garden in Srinagar, Kashmir which will attract tourists to this region. The garden was inaugurated by Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Spread over 52 hectares of picturesque land on the foothills of the Zabarwan mountains and located on the banks of the Dal Lake, Srinagar’s newly inaugurated Tulip Garden is a sight to behold. At present, there are 15 lakh tulips in the garden which present a mesmerizing view.

During the opening function, Sinha said Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a tourism boom. He added, “In just January and February, 4.70 lakh tourists visited J&K and the figures exclude Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims.”

Ravi Kumar, a tourist in Kashmir, who hails from Delhi told BE, “This newly opened tulip garden is simply amazing. It can be one of the main tourist attractions of this region.”

At a time when there is a huge rush of tourists despite the holy month of Ramadan, the surge in air fares is playing spoilsport. An official wishing not to be named while  talking to BE said the matter has been taken to the aviation ministry.
