The government of India’s Paryatan Parv Activism of India recently hyped tourism in Kolkata. The main idea is to focus on the benefits of tourism and showcase the cultural diversity of the country and instil the principle of “Tourism of All” to people. From a press release of the Kolkata office of the ministry, it is known that more than 2000 tourism stakeholders and citizens including tourism and hospitality students, tour operators, guides hoteliers, drivers, tangawalas, immigration officials, etc. were engaged in more than 20 activities.
The Ministry has taken an ambitious plan to double the domestic trip of tourists in the next 3 years. In the last FY t he ministry reports Indians had made 1.8 billion domestic trips. The question is whether India is prepared to meet the huge target in the coming three years. The infrastructure bottleneck may be the main barrier. The minister of tourism, GoI, expects that in West Bengal alone there will be 20 million footfalls within 2020.
