‘Impact of Covid-19, Reforms, poor governance on labour rights in India’ – Books released

Eminent Labour Economist and Professor, Human Resources Management Area at XLRI – Xavier School of Management, Dr. K.R. Shyam Sundar’s new book titled – ‘Impact of Covid-19, Reforms, poor governance on labour rights in India’ was released recently. The book was released by Professor D. Narasimha Reddy (Professor of Economics (Retired), University of Hyderabad). Dr. Sundar said, “My book is based on the fundamental premise that labour institutions and social dialogue are indispensable for promoting sound labour market and industrial relations policies especially during the crisis-ridden crucial time such as the one we are facing now.” 

 

Jindal Stainless produces Liquid Oxygen

Jindal Stainless produces Liquid Oxygen at its stainless steel manufacturing facility in Hisar for industrial purposes. In wake of high oxygen demand from hospitals due to the second wave of pandemic, Jindal Stainless has been consistently supplying ~ 8 tonne/day Liquid Oxygen to all the nearby medical facilities in Haryana. They are supplying oxygen to Jindal Institute of Medical Sciences in Hisar, Maharaja Agrasen Medical College in Agroha, Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Medical Sciences in Mullana, and balance available Oxygen is being supplied to cylinder re-fillers. Noting an acute shortage of oxygen in the Delhi-NCR region, Jindal Stainless recently began supplies to Medanta, Gurgaon, and Moolchand hospital in Delhi.

Long term measures can nurture the sustainability of tea industry  

A paper was submitted to the Honourable Finance Minister by the Tea Association of India. They focussed on the prime reasons for which the industry is undergoing acute financial stress for the last few years. They projected the scenario of ever increasing quantum of tea import, which has the potential of denting into the fortunes of domestic Industry. Issues like Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), the remission of duties or taxes (Ro DTEP) were highlighted. The FM was positive to the association’s submission of being able to present detailed presentation in the coming days that would concentrate of identifying long term measures to nurture the sustainability of tea industry.

Shree Cement revs up oxygen supply for Covid hospitals 

Shree Cement is running its oxygen plants at 100% capacity to cater to the shortage of oxygen and steadily supplying oxygen cylinders to hospitals across India from its production units in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Bihar, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. The plants are also providing free oxygen refills at all its units. The CSR team of Shree Cement has been working with women in the villages to get masks stitched, thereby providing them with a source of income.
